I too was shocked when I saw all the negative comments left about Shadow Creek. I have boarded my horse there for 2 years, in addition to the 3 years that I have taken lessons there. I know there are several other barns in the area that may have nicer facilities or bigger rings, but I have never found a place that provides the level of service and care for both my horse and my own needs. Susan is more than willing to work with each individual to be sure he or she gets the most out of each lesson, as well as their overall experience at Shadow Creek. In addition, my horse came down with a cold (which turned out to be much more) and it was immediately recognized by the workers at Shadow Creek, was brought to my attention, and a vet was out immediately. The workers and Susan both pay incredible attention to the well being of each horse, from the sickness my horse had to noticing when certain horses don't get along in the turnout. Even little things, like reminding me I need more supplements are done by the workers to ensure that my horse has the best possible care.
In terms of the lesson horses, yes, many of them are old, but they still have the distinct capability of teaching new students to ride, and I would argue that that is the most important goal. Sure, at times they buck or may spook, but that's horses. No horse, no matter how expensive, young, or fancy they are completely immune from these types of behaviors.
I would most certainly recommend this barn to others, and have been actively doing so as a member of the University of Minnesota Equestrian team. While I have had the option to move my horse elsewhere several times, I have always declined to do so on the account that both my horse and myself are welcome, cared for, encouraged, and challenged at Shadow Creek.
I would just like to say that I truely enjoy boarding my horse at Shadow Creek. I have had him there for two years now and I took lessons at the stable before I purchased him. I feel that he is very well cared for and that they, Susan and the workers, are always looking out for his best interest. I also have lessoned on the majority of the lesson horses and although some have their quarks I can guarentee that Susan and all of the instructors take into consideration the ability of each individual rider to ensure safety as well as allowing them to learn. Overall Shadow Creek has been a wonderful learning environment for both my horse and myself and it is upsetting to see the negative comments since I believe they are untrue. Susan is a wonderful person to work with and tries to please everyone of her customers, and unfortunately that has been missed by some of you.
I came to this site, as Susan has asked me to make a positive statement about Shadow Creek. She asked the right question. I also found out that she wants to have all the negative reviews removed. Now, I would think that a smart business person, might read the negative reviews, and change her business practices. No,she wants to change the message board which is manipulative and controlling. I've only taken lessons for four months but have almost been bucked off by a lesson horse. I guess she asked the wrong person to post a positive review. I don't plan on going back.

I can't imagine why anyone would write a positive review about this stable unless Susan put them on the spot by asking them to. You can see proof of this in one of the other reviews. I don't know about the horses, but I can guarantee that the people here are brutal and treat customers terribly while they take your money. Save yourself the grief.
